At last the weather has started to warm up and we have started picking garlic scapes this morning. The scape is the flowering shoot from the garlic plant and we hand pick each and everyone of them to encourage the plant to put all of its energy into forming the bulb. Scapes are delicious chopped up and added to a stirfry or simply steamed like a green bean and tossed in butter. Keep an eye on our webshop as they will be available to purchase very soon, and have a look at our recipe pages for more inspiring ideas of how to cook with garlic scapes.

Scape picking has begun in earnest. Scapes (or garlic shoots) are the flowering part of the garlic plant. Once picked the plant will put all its energy into swelling the bulb ready for harvest at the end of July. Scapes are delicious chopped up in salads and stirfries. Gilli makes her delicious Paella substituting green beans with garlic scapes. As with all seasonal vegetables, they are worth waiting for and are all the more better when you have had to wait 11 months to taste them again!!
